Nie Huaisang, the heir to the Qinghe Nie sect, grew up in his brother's strict but loving and supportive care. While the brothers could butt heads at times, there was nothing that could shake the bond of family and brotherhood that existed between them. For all of his seemingly cowardly tendencies, Nie Huaisang grew up more certain of himself than perhaps any of his contemporaries did.

Now a full year after his brother had been properly laid to rest and his death avenged, Nie Huaisang is less interested in his helpless facade. Instead he is stepping into his role as sect leader even if he is not following the militant path his brother and predecessors followed. His strength does lay more in his quick and clever wit than it does his sword arm.

While he doesn't often carry the sabre that was his to claim when he began cultivating his golden core, he does carry an iron fan. Similar to tessen of Japanese origin, his Shuixian is a spiritual weapon that is just as deceptive in appearance as he is. The spines of the fan are crafted from metal, the ends of which are finely honed blades. These are covered by a delicately painted silk that depicts a cliff and waterfall that is found not far from his home. It is the only weapon he has bothered to train and cultivate a spiritual bond with.
